Whether you’re a growing enterprise, an entrepreneur , a digital nomad or a small business, Quickbooks has a number of versions available to suit all business types and budgets. Here’s a quick overview of the options available.
QuickBooks Online (QBO)
Quickbooks Online is cloud-based which means you don’t have to install software to use it. This version of QuickBooks is available in three subscription levels – Simple Start, Essentials or Plus, and it’s ideal for any service-based business that doesn’t have complicated invoicing requirements.
QBO allows you to access your data from any computer with an internet connection, using your secure login, so super handy if you need to be able to access your data from various locations or if you want your Virtual Assistant to handle things.
QuickBooks Desktop
Quickbooks Desktop comes in three versions – Pro, Premier or Enterprise. All three versions require you to install software on to your computer.
QuickBooks Pro is ideal for most small businesses that do not manufacture products.
Quickbooks Premier is ideal if your business falls into one of these industries: manufacturing, contractor, retail or non-profit.
QuickBooks Enterprise is for large businesses and enterprises.
These industry-specific versions of QuickBooks also include a custom chart of accounts and reports for these industries. You can find out more details here.
QuickBooks Self-Employed
This version is ideal for freelancers, realtors and Uber drivers for example. Similar to QuickBooks Online (QBO), it is a cloud-based product that can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection and your secure login. Unlike QBO and Desktop, this version includes unique features such as the ability to separate business from personal expenses, track miles and transfer data to TurboTax.
QuickBooks Self-Employed will also give you a detailed breakdown for self assessment so you know how much you owe – all the number crunching is done for you. There are two QuickBooks Self-Employed pricing plans; learn more about each one here.
QuickBooks Mac
Finally, Quickbooks Mac is the only desktop product available for Mac users. If you don’t want to go with Quickbooks Online and you have a Mac computer, then you have to go with QuickBooks Mac. This version is very similar to QuickBooks Pro, and is ideal for most small businesses that don’t manufacture products.
